Air China to Initiate Direct Weekend Chartered Flights from Beijing and Shanghai to Taiwan on July 4thHome > About Us > Air China News > Air China to Initiate Direct Weekend Chartered Flights from Beijing and Shanghai to Taiwan on July 4th On July 4th 2008, Air China will launch direct weekend chartered flights from both Beijing and Shanghai to Taipei. A flight to Kaohsiung is also under consideration. The Airbus A330 luxury aircraft will depart from Beijing Capital Airport at 8:30am (Beijing time) and arrive in Taipei at 1:00pm the same day. This historic moment marks the beginning of new era in air transportation linking both sides of the Taiwan Strait. In order to ensure flights across the Strait run smoothly, a coordination team arrived in Taiwan on June 15th. Along with the Airbus A330, Air China has assigned two other aircrafts - “Beijing Olympics" and "Lucky Olympics” – to the new route. A cabin crew with experience flying across the Strait and attendants fluent in the Fujian dialect, will offer passengers a professional and first-class service. Since joining the Star Alliance, Air China has expanded its flight network and its use of regional hubs such as Beijing, Chengdu and China’s “gateway” city, Shanghai. By connecting with partners in the Star Alliance, Air China has optimized its global network and made passenger transfers more convenient. The launch of the new cross-Strait weekend chartered flights will allow the people of Taiwan to take advantage of Air China’s international network. They will now be able to use Beijing and Shanghai as hubs to travel onto European countries as well as Japan, Korea and other parts of the globe.
